Landmine musuem

Got some time to spare so quick update on my trip to cambodia.tons and tons to write about!!
One of the days during our free time, the group decided to take a short trip to the landmine museum which is about 15 mins from our place. our mode of transportation was "tuk tuk's" and boy i was lucky.the tuk tuk driver i met happened to work in malaysia for quite some time and was very fluent in speaking malay.never would i thought that this language would come in handy in cambodia.

and so off we go.on the way there he would tell me all kinds of stuff about siem reap.

one thing interesting was that, there are only 3 traffic lights in this whole town.in malaysia theres like TONS of traffic lights in a small town alone.oh well...and he said too that some hotels in siem reap cost about 600 usd to 2000 usd per night.pricey ain't it! how much a person is willing to pay to come see the temples and a big lake.oh well rich people only.

and by the way, if u see any pink lanterned places! don't go in okay!!.tons of karaoke place's around siem reap and i bet u're not just in there for the karaoeke machine.xD

okay now back to the museum part.this museum was started by this fella named aki ra.sounds jap but he ain't no jap.this dude goes around with sticks poking on the ground for landmines.and he has personally disarmed TONS of it.thousands i think.

history recap! see at that time, during the khmer rouge, pol pot's regime actually planted 10 million landmines in their own area for their own people to die.i heard that at the thai-cambodia border alone there is 6-7 million landmines left and 2-3 people die everyday from landmines.oh well, those are just statistics.

and one thing explained though..you know in the movies?where the hero steps on the landmine and hears a click.then he alerts his team and they replaces his foot with something heavy so that the mine won't explode. thats a whole load of hollywood crap. it explodes the instant u hear that click sound.
this guy was our tour guide for the trip. as you can see he was one of the victims as well.he explained alot about the mines, how did they actually kill and how did these people actually maximised killing.kill efficiency.

when the mine explodes, thousand's of small metallic ball's actually are released on impact and penetrates thru anything in their way which in this situation is the lucky person who steps on it.one thing bad is, they don't actually kill, but they actually aim to make you and amputee as you would see.

It's so hard to spot.BOOM bye bye me.and our tour guide also told us his story.

he was going out to the field's one day with his brother and sister.and then, he stepped on one.boom instantly.but ironically, he survived. it was his brother and sister that was killed due to pieces of mine that exploded and hit them.he was tearing when he told us that.

thousands of mines.

akira dude.the smiley face on the bottom right. mines are like trophies to him.ironically he was forced to plant them in the first place.now his trying to fix things.

thats nakata and aki ra.one's jap one's not.as a football fan, i'm impressed!
